Directed by Jean-François Lévesque, produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
® 2008 National Film Board of Canada

This year, ONF à la maison is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Please join us at the Ahuntsic-Cartierville Maison de la culture, at 3 p.m. on October 4, for a special program to mark the occasion. Jean-François Pouliot will present NFB 70 Years/ONF 70 ans, his tribute to the National Film Board; Oscar® winner Torill Kove will share her favourite children’s animation; while Luc Chamberland, an animator on Jean-François Lévesque’s award-winning short The Necktie/Le nœud cravate, will entertain us with stories about the making of this film and the techniques used.

Productive partnership between National Film Board and Accès culture network

ONF à la maison started up under another name, in two different parts of the network. In winter 2000, the Pointe aux Trembles and Rivière des Prairies maisons de la culture started screening NFB children’s shorts on VHS. In autumn 2000, a very successful partnership was born as the project expanded to six maisons de la culture, which began screening NFB feature-length films, and its name was changed to Les Nouveautés de l’ONF. A special brochure was made for the event.

In winter 2001, Les Nouveautés de l’ONF was renamed ONF à la maison to honour participating organizations while reflecting the NFB’s goal of reaching film lovers directly in their own neighbourhoods. Since autumn 2000, this initiative also allowed audiences behind the scenes for a glimpse into how the films were made, by giving them the opportunity to meet film professionals at the end of screenings. In the past ten years, close to 34,000 people have participated in ONF à la maison events, attending around 450 screenings. In the coming autumn season, 16 centres will be involved, with 32 screenings followed by discussions and four family programs. In total, 45 short and feature-length films will be shown through the Accès culture network.
