Nature of the award
The Prix Jacques-Cartier du roman et de la nouvelle de langue française was created in 2009 by the Centre Jacques-Cartier de Lyon for its 25th anniversary, in collaboration with the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal.
A $15,000 award was presented by the Centre Jacques-Cartier de Lyon to the author of a French language novel registered to the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal for the publication's outstanding workmanship and original contribution to the « francophonie ».
Registration procedure
To be eligible for le Prix Jacques-Cartier du roman et de la nouvelle de langue française, the novel or short story must be in French and registered to the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal. The French language novels or short stories that meet those criteria will automatically be examined by the panel of judges.
A French novelist or short story author will not be eligible for both prizes the same year.

The panel of judges for the Prix Jacques-Cartier du roman et de la nouvelle de langue française will be the same as the one for the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal.

Tristan Malavoy-Racine, writer and chief editor of the newspaper VOIR,
Sherry Simon, essayist and teacher at the département d’études françaises, Concordia University.
