Who are the friends?

Les Amis de la bibliothèque de Montréal

The Friends of the Montréal Library is a non-profit association founded to support the activities and outreach of the Montréal Library and to make its books more widely accessible.

In pursuit of their goal, the Friends have set themselves the following objectives:

  • Inform members about the resources and activities available in city libraries
  • Educate Montrealers about the role and services offered by libraries
  • Represent the general public in dealings with the Montréal Library
  • Organize campaigns to raise funds for specific projects
  • Develop ties with organizations in the field of documentation

The association has approximately 500 members. A number of non-member volunteers assist with book sales and various administrative tasks.

The association is governed by a 11-member elected board of directors and honorary president and founder, Hélène Charbonneau. A representative of the Montréal Library is invited to attend meetings of the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors for 2010–2011 is as follows:
