On the road with the Bibliobus
The first of the city’s Bibliobus (Bookmobile) vehicles hit the road on August 16, 1966. The Bibliobus (Bookmobile) serves mainly school districts located far from a public library, as well as those in disadvantaged areas.
Since 2004, the Bibliobus (Bookmobile) has focused on young people living in:
- Ahunstic-Cartierville;
- Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve;
- Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie;
- Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.
In 2004, with its collection of more than 40,000 books, it attracted 1,000 young people from seven schools and made 25,000 loans.
A portable library set up in a colourful semi-trailer, the city’s Bibliobus (Bookmobile) is inviting to children, rain or shine. It is an original book-lending service in the heart of their neighbourhoods.
