On-site training - Introduction to the library

Computers and shelves of books at the libraryTo help you take full advantage of the many resources available, all network libraries offer an introductory course to the layout of the library, the services offered, the collections, the policies and the animation activities. Any library employee will be pleased to answer your questions and show you where to find the online catalogue and reference section, newspaper and magazine area, and audiovisual section. By following the signs, you will learn to locate a book on the shelves in the different library sections and, if needed, where to go to ask for research help from specialized staff.

During the introductory course, you will be shown:

  • areas set aside for individual or group work;
  • the tiny tots’ section;
  • the teenagers’ corner;
  • the photocopying area.

At the end of the course, you will normally be given a folder outlining the library’s current policies, including :

  • the number of books that can be taken out at any one time;
  • the procedure to extend books on loan and fines for late returns.

If the library is located on several floors, a floor plan is usually available, but please feel free to ask staff for directions at any time.
