The Library Statistics for the 21st -Century World meeting was held August 18 and 19. This section of the website presents the results, minutes and reports of this meeting.

Undoubtedly, 2008 will be an important year for Montréal libraries. Many public and university libraries construction projects were begun or completed during the year. These developments will require more refined analysis of the necessary resources with regards to the growing need perspective.

After the publication in 2005 of the Diagnostic des bibliothèques publiques de Montréal (Montréal Public Library Diagnostic), a strategic development plan, based on a new standardization and performance measure program, was proposed. It helped to improve improve the service offer quality from Montréal’s Public Library Network.

The global convergence of standardization work on statistical indicators and performance measures supports regional and national initiatives, both in Quebec and in Canada, as well as in other developed and emerging countries. The collective production of benchmarking studies, impact analysis "outcomes", and the emergence of comparative assessment integrated models of quality of service, including balanced scorecard definitely need more standardization. 

The identification of common statistical indicators like UNESCO’s Global Statistics offers a development opportunity and a likely future in terms of common quality indicators. The IFLA's Satellite Meeting in Montréal was an exceptional opportunity for determinant professional exchanges and discussions for a new universal model of statistical indicators
