To formulate this plan, the city of Montréal teamed up
with several organizations that are committed to promoting sustainable
development in the metropolitan region. They underlined their commitment to work
in collaboration with the city by abiding by the Policy statement by the
Montréal community regarding sustainable development . The content of the Plan, implemented over a five-year period (2005-2009), reflects the constant dialogue between the city of Montréal and its partners.
In addition to specifying an orientation, Montréal's
First Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development contains a series of
actions that the city of Montréal plans to carry out to ensure sustainable
development is promoted in the metropolitan area. Since everyone has a role to
play in attaining this objective, several organizations from various sectors have pledged to work in partnership with the city to orchestrate most of these actions. This guide reflects the collective effort that all the partners plan to put forth in order to provide future generations with a city that is characterized by a high quality of life.
The Plan is monitored through indicators that measure the progress of the different actions along with the state of the Montréal environment as a whole.
Because it relies on updated information, the Plan is not
static. Montréal's First Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development is just as evolving and dynamic as the constantly changing reality it portrays.
