Over the last few years, Lachine has experienced unprecedented vitality and growth. Already a favourite of cyclists who enjoy its waterside bike path during the summer months, Lachine has begun to attract more and more new residents in search of an exceptional living environment. Now famous for the quality and diversity of its cultural activities, its wealth of historical heritage, the beauty of its parks, the cleanliness of its streets and its dynamic community life, Lachine has become a choice destination for entertainment and residence alike.
In June of 2004, during the Fêtes de Lachine, the borough council unveiled the new visual representations of its identity as well as its new flag, designed to represent what Lachine has become and pay homage to what Lachine has been.
Lachine’s riverside location has played an important role in its past, present, and future of Lachine. Long before industrialization, the Montréal area experienced phenomenal economic and commercial growth. This is largely due to the presence of the Lachine Canal. Today, citizens and visitors enjoy nautical activities there; they take a ride or a stroll on its banks. More than ever, it is an unrivalled centre of attraction for culture and tourism. It remains, as it has always been, an extraordinary asset for the future of the borough. |
