Nuns' Island Golf Course
A golf course in keeping with the eco-territory is scheduled for opening in
the summer of 2010 on the southern tip of the L’Île-des-Soeurs neighbourhood.
Verdun Borough Council, in conjunction with the Québec government's
Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs,
has defined the framework and conditions for this project, which is eagerly
awaited by golf enthusiasts.
The project requires an investment of $12 million and, once in operation,
will create 120 jobs. It will cover an area of 260,000 m², will be located on an
undeveloped site along the St. Lawrence River and Domaine Saint-Paul and
will offer recreational and sports services and equipment.
The project will include:
- A 9-hole ecological golf course (par 3, 4 and 5)
- A driving range and a short-game practice area
- A golf academy: one hole reserved for professional instruction
- Driving ranges
- An indoor virtual golf centre and pro shop
- Two restaurants as well as conference rooms
- A number of winter activities
The ecological golf course project includes the creation of new green spaces,
new stretches
of water and wetlands as well as new nesting areas specifically
developed for the many species of animals living on this part of the island:
foxes, hares, herons and several types of migratory birds that populate this
ornithological centre recognized by bird-watching specialists.
