Verdun in bloom contest 2011
Make the most of your gardening skills and create beautiful landscapes at
home! This contest is open to all Verdunites.
Registration is mandatory in
the three contest categories:
Residents are invited to register. They may also register another resident’s
garden.
1. Registration forms are available:
a) on the committee’s
website: comite-embellissement.info
b) at Centre
communautaire Marcel-Giroux (4501, rue Bannantyne) or at Centre communautaire
Elgar (260, rue Elgar) or call 514 765-7158.
2. Submit your duly
completed registration form at one of the two community centres or mail it to:

Contest categories:
1. Amateur garden* - Backyard
(ground/balcony/terrace)
2. Amateur garden* - Overall landscaping
3.
Amateur garden* - balcony/terrace in bloom (front)
- Basic rule for amateur
gardens: Certification that the resident has taken care of his garden by
him/herself during the past 12 months.
- There will be a maximum of 3 winners
in each of the categories and each one will be awarded a prize.
- In order to
give all residents a chance, the 2010 contest winners will not be eligible to
enter the contest unless they have created a new landscaping.
Committee’s Award:
1. Front garden: ground
2. Beautiful Business in
Bloom
No registration needed for these awards. The members of the selection
committee will go up and down the streets of the Borough to choose the
finalists.
Evaluation criteria:
a) Optimal use of available space
b) Variety and
harmony of colours and shapes
c) Plant and bush health
d) Decorative
components
e) Overall evaluation
Visit by the judges
To evaluate the landscapes, the first visit to all
contest entrants will take place from July 4 to July 9, 2011.
Guest judge
Julie Boudreau will visit the finalists either July 19 or July 20, 2011.
The contest award ceremony will be held in September 2011.
An exhibition featuring the photos of the winning landscapes will be
presented at Borough Hall, September 9 – September 30, 2011.

The event is celebrating its 20th successful year! Rain or shine, join other
residents and associations and make a concrete contribution to the environment.
Borough Mayor, Mr. Claude Trudel, members of the Verdun Borough Council,
MNA, Mr. Henri-François Gautrin and Comité d’embellissement Verdun invite you to
participate.
The activity ends at 1 p.m. The first 500 participants who show
up on the day of the event will receive a t-shirt.
A lunch will be served.

Trees and
bushes sale 2011
Did you ever dream of planting a tree? Now in its 13th year, the Comité
d’embellissement Verdun’s tree and bush sale invites Verdun carte Accès
cardholders to purchase a tree or bush to plant in their garden.
Many
species are available. Only 250 trees and bushes are on sale. Don’t delay!
Maximum: 3 trees or bushes per address.
Reservations and prepaid purchases: Centre communautaire Marcel-Giroux, 4501,
rue Bannantyne and Centre communautaire Elgar, 260, rue Elgar.
The tree sale
begins on March 28 and ends on April 24.
Buyers may pick up their purchases
at the Municipal Greenhouses (7000, boul. Lasalle) on Saturday May 21, from 8:
30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Free compost when you pick up your purchases at the Municipal
Greenhouses
Bring your own container! Limited quantities available!

Photo contest
The Verdun Borough and the Comité d’embellissement Verdun are calling all
amateur photographers in Verdun to enter the photo contest’s ninth edition.
Three themes:
A) Art in Verdun
The art work appearing
on the photograph must absolutely be located in Verdun. The contest entrant must
identify the location featured on the photo.
B) A Lane in Verdun: The lane
appearing on the photo must absolutely be located in Verdun. The contest entrant
must identify the location featured on the photo.
C) A Season in Verdun: The
photo must represent a season in Verdun and must be taken in Verdun. The
contestant must identify the location featured on the photo.
- A separate and duly completed contest entry form must be included with each
photo.
- The photo must be 4” X 6” (approx. 10 X 15 cm)
- A maximum of one
contest entry per theme, per contest entrant.
- No charge for entering the
contest.
- The registration period begins on April 25. The contest entry
deadline is July 17, 2011.
The panel of judges will be made up of professional and amateur
photographers.
An exhibition will be held at Verdun’s Borough Hall, September 9 – September
30, 2011 and at Centre communautaire Elgar, October 10-16.
The winners’
names will be announced during an award evening this fall.
