Buildings - Montreal Aqueduct

Montreal Aqueduct

The construction of Montréal's Aqueduct Canal dates back to 1852. The aqueduct was opened in 1856, but as of the following year, periodic expansion was required to meet demand. Verdun's Aqueduct building dates from 1911. Architect Georges Janin designed it. Although access to running water became widespread in the 20th century, its quality proved the source of many infectious diseases.
