A borough surrounded by water
Verdun is located in the island of Montréal's south-western quadrant. It is bordered by two bodies of water: the Aqueduct Canal to the north and the St. Lawrence River to the south.
The borough has three districts, also called neighbourhoods:
- Wellington–de l'Église
- Desmarchais–Crawford
- L'Île-des-Soeurs
Autoroutes 10, 15 and 20 provide access to the borough, which is close to downtown Montréal.
Economic vitality
Verdun's economic vitality is in full swing thanks to the presence of highly active networking associations. Furthermore, the organization of numerous encounters for business people, such as Rendez-vous d'affaires and Midi-Motivation, ensures the synergy of Verdun's business community.
The service industry accounts for a high percentage of jobs in the borough. The labour force numbers 30,000, for a participation rate of 58.9 per cent. L'Île-des-Soeurs neighbourhood is an area of high vitality and excellent potential for prestigious office space due to such factors as its ideal geographic position at the crossroads of roads leading to the United States. Commercial endeavours are present throughout the borough.
