Permits and certificates
Garage Sales
A permit is required to hold a garage sale in the Verdun
Borough. Such permits are free of charge. A maximum of two (2) permits may be
issued per year for a given property and no postponements or extensions of
garage sale dates are allowed.
The garage sale may
Only be held on weekends, for up to two (2) consecutive days
Be held
between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The sale may not be reported to another day.
Only the owner or occupant of a private residence may apply for a permit for
a garage sale to be held on his or her property. No other location will be
authorized. Garage sales may not encroach upon the sidewalk, the street or any
other public place.
A garage sale without a permit is authorized during the following
periods:
- the Saturday, the Sunday and the Monday prior to the 25th of May of the
given year;
- the Saturday and the Sunday prior to the first Monday of September as well
as on the first Monday of September.
Garage sale notification and advertisement
You may not affix, paste up or otherwise install or maintain a poster,
notice, banner, streamer, flag, sign, placard, or any other similar object
announcing the garage sales on a streetlamp, a pole or any other public utility
equipment or on cars.
Procedure
You may apply for a permit at the Bureau Accès Verdun :
- Provide the identity and the address of the owner of the property on which
the garage sale will be held (recent proof of address);
- If the request is made in the name of the owner of the property, a written
power of attorney must be provided by the representative;
- State the date, times and place of the garage sale;
- Give an illustration of the advertisement, if this is the case (see Bylaws
RCA06 210012-2 and RCA10 210005 for norms);
- State how you plan to publicize the sale.
The permis must be cleary displayed during the garage sale.
