Commercial Occupancy - Commercial Occupancy Certificate

All business, offices, industries, institutions and organizations must display their occupancy certificate. This document authorized that their activities or the person in charge of the business are in compliance with the zoning by-law #1700.

Before leasing or purchasing premises, make sure you are allowed to use them for the purpose you have in mind. Ask the borough representative about the sector you have chosen and the permissible activities that exist there.

Procedure

To obtain the commercial occupancy certificate you must go to:

Requested documents

  • registration or business incorporation documents
  • lease, if you have one

Fees

a) for a new business: $213
b) change of operator: free of charge
c) additional use in an residential sector: $217
d) for a new business name: free of charge

Home office

Doing business at home is authorized in certain conditions. The following activities are allowed in the borough: personal or medical offices, artist or craftsman workshop, family daycare with more than six (6) children. Please note that you must obtain an occupancy certificate if you meet customers inside your home office.
