Permits and certificates

Wireless Phone Antenna

All requests for installing wireless telephone antennas shall be subject to the Site Planning and Architectural Integration Program (SPAIP) approval procedure.

Procedure

An SPAIP must be submitted prior to any request to install a transmitting-receiving antenna for a telecommunications system.

Documents to submit for SPAIP approval (13 paper copies and one electronic version)

  • A plan illustrating how the antenna is to be installed with respect to the building or the land
  • A series of colour photographs illustrating how the antenna is to be installed as well as any other antenna that has already been installed or that is to be installed on the building or property 
  • A plan illustrating frequency coverage in the area 
  • A letter supporting the selected location and the company's needs

Rules

  • The antenna should be installed so as to minimize its impact on nearby buildings.
  • The antenna, the support and any electrical conduits must fit into the appearance of the building on which they are installed.
  • If the antenna is installed on private or public equipment, or on an accessory structure, the antenna must fit into the style of this equipment and accessory structure.
