Permanent Car Shelter
A permit is required to build a carport (i.e., a permanent
car shelter). Before preparing the plans required to obtain a permit, you must
follow the rules below:
Rules
- Only one (1) carport is authorized per building.
- The carport may not be placed in a front setback. To inquire about the
appropriate setback for the street address in question, you must contact the
Borough's Direction de l'aménagement urbain et des services aux
entreprises.
- The carport, including the projection of its roof, must be situated within
the side and rear property lines.
- In the case of a corner lot, you must go to the offices of the
Direction de l'aménagement urbain et des services aux entreprises and
submit the location certificate of your building.
- The maximum height of the carport (from the peak of its roof) must be no
more than 4 metres in the case of a sloped roof and 3 meters for a flat roof.
The maximum authorized surface area is 40 m².
- The carport must be made of approved permanent materials (wood or brick
posts, asphalt shingle roof) similar to the existing structure.
Procedure
When submitting a request for a permit to build a carport, you must submit
the following documents:
- A scale plan of the installation, showing the property lines, the existing
building and the desired location and dimensions of the planned carport
- Scale plans, sectional view and elevation of carport
- Construction details
- Structural plans showing the details and dimensions of structural
components (including foundations, columns, beams and joists)
- Copy of the location certificate
