Collection of bulky items

Think about giving your bulky items a new lease on life

Before disposing of your bulky items, think about recycling them. A number of associations and companies collect furniture, household appliances, computers, etc. The contact information of the associations in your area may be found in the Consommer autrement publication available on the following website:  ville.montreal.qc.ca/reemploi (in French). At the same address, you may also conduct an online search in the Répertoire des adresses du réemploi (in French).

Recovery of ICT (information, communications
and technologies) items

The Borough also encourages residents who want to dispose of their old computer or electronic equipment to bring these items to the Ateliers municipaux building at 1177, rue Dupuis, Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. – noon. For further information, phone 3-1-1.

Bulky items that are unusable or broken may be disposed of in the bulky items collection that is carried out one Friday per month, in each sector of the Borough. 

Collection days

  • Sector 1: L'Île-des-Soeurs and Crawford Park (rue Leclair to rue Fayolle)
    1st Friday of the month

  • Sector 2: between rue May and rue de l’Église
    2nd Friday of the month

  • Sector 3: between rue Galt and rue Desmarchais
    3rd Friday of the month

  • Sector 4 : between rue Melrose and rue Stephens
    4th Friday of the month

When to put out bulky items

Between 10 p.m. on the evening before the collection day and 8 a.m. on the collection day

Materials accepted

A maximum of 2 cubic meters (or 70 cubic feet) per household and per collection

  • Electric household appliances: range, refrigerator or freezer without the door, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, stove, oven (tanks must be empty), microwave, television, computer and hi-fi equipment or any other items of the same nature
  • Furniture:  table, chair, box spring, bed, matress, cupboard, sofa, armchair, desk, night table, dresser, garden furniture, or any other items of the same nature
  • Heating appliances and plumbing fixtures: radiator, dismantled boiler, empty hot water tank or oil tank, sink, bathtub, prefabricated shower stall, toilet bowl or any other items of the same nature
  • Various other items: bike, baby stroller, baby carriage, ironing board or toys or kitchen, household, garden, patio, camping or sports items, exercise equipment, mirror, cushion, fan, lamp, curtains, blinds, barbecue without the propane tank, or any other items of the same nature
  • Construction materials: door, door frame, window, window frame, small quantity of wood materials, bundled or in a box measuring less than 1 cubic metre (35,3 cubic feet) and weighing less than 75 kg (165 lbs), floor covering (rug, carpeting or linoleum), tarpaulin, kitchen or bathroom cabinets or any other items of the same nature.  Please make sure that any nails are removed or flattened;
  • Green waste:  pieces of wood and branches not exceeding 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter and 0,5 metres (20 inches) in length, except during the time of year where green waste collections are scheduled (see calendar on Info-Collections page).

    REMINDER: Green waste is accepted in the bulky items collection only during times of the year when there are no green waste collections. To find out the dates of these collections, check the Collection Calendar on the Info-Collectionspage.

    IMPORTANT:

    Make sure that each bulky item disposed of is no more than 75 kg (165 lbs), 2 metres (6.5 feet) in length, width and depth or 1,5 cubic metres (53 cubic feet).


Materials not accepted

  • Excavated earth, rubble, demolition debris and debris from public works and private work as well as waste from craftwork or from agricultural, industrial and commercial operations or from occasional repairmen
  • Tires, wire (barbed or not), body of any vehicles, or portions thereof, parts of the vehicle, pipes, cans, posts, tank, batteries or other similar materials
  • Items that are part of any other types of collection (waste, recycling, green waste, hazardous household waste (HHW) and construction, renovation or demolition debris from household use exceeding the standards

Bulky items not accepted and quantities or dimensions not in keeping with standards won't be collected.

Prohibited items may be brought to Écocentre d’Eadie or to the Ateliers municipaux building, as the case may be.

Residents may also dispose of mattresses, upholstered furniture, carpeting, rugs, construction materials, pieces of wood and branches over 5 cm in diameter and more than 0.5 metres long, by going to the Borough's Ateliers municipaux building (in French) when it is open. Minimum charges of $33 per cubic metre must be paid on site.

To report any bulky items in a lane

The Borough's road workers don't pass through the lanes on a regular basis; therefore, if you notice any bulky items abandoned in lanes, please report them to Bureau Accès Verdun by phoning 311.
