Comité consultatif d'urbanisme (CCU)
(Planning Advisory Committee)
With the advent of the Quebec Land Use Planning and Development Act,
municipalities have been required to increase their urban planning activities.
To respond to this broad range of concerns, municipal councils must enhance
their knowledge of planning issues and consult with a variety of stakeholders.
The Comité consultatif d'urbanisme (CCU) assists in this process by
helping to ensure that the population’s needs are better taken into account.
The role of the committee, which has no decision-making authority, is to
examine requests for minor variances to by-laws on zoning and subdivisions,
requests for variances on the ban on condominium conversions and requests for
approval of site development and architectural integration plans (PIIAs) with
respect to construction, signs, etc.
The CCU can discuss a set of municipal concerns pertaining to
land-use planning, such as urban development, amendment of zoning rules, the
location of facilities, planning guidelines, etc.
Verdun’s CCU has been in existence for over 15 years and
has seven members, consisting of four residents and three elected
officials.
