Maison Smith
Smith House, at the entrance of Mount Royal Park, is one of the few vestiges
of the mountain’s rural history. During the 19th century, industries and
residences were clustered along the St. Lawrence River and the city was polluted
and overpopulated. People dreamed of moving to the country, which the mountain
represented at the time. In 1989, the city signed an agreement with charitable
organization Les amis de la montagne entrusting it with long-term management of
this historic house as part of efforts to protect and preserve Mount
Royal.
