Le Coup de départ (Starting Block)
Québec runner Philippe Laheurte (1957-1991) earned the title of senior Canadian champion in 1982 at the 5000-metre event. He was also one of the founders of the Regina Mundi athletic club. He died accidentally in 1991 at the age of 34. The artwork reflects the athlete’s principles that guided him throughout his life, such as rising to new challenges and aiming for excellence. It also refers to sports ideals as being part of citizen values.
