Paul de Chomedey, sieur de Maisonneuve(1612-1676)
Paul de Chomedey, sieur de Maisonneuve founded Ville-Marie on May 17, 1642, with a handful of settlers. A religious man, he was chosen by the Société de Notre-Dame to set up a missionary centre on the Island of Montréal. This project was developed by Jérôme LeRoyer de LaDauversière and involved Maisonneuve, Jeanne Mance, craftsmen and farmers.
