City council is the city’s main decision-making body. It is composed of the mayor and 64 members from all of the city’s boroughs. The city has jurisdiction over many areas, including:
- public safety
- governmental agreements
- building renovation subsidy programs
- the environment
- the urban development plan
- the three-year capital works program
As well, city council guides, standardizes and approves decisions that are made by borough councils.
The agenda contains, at the beginning of the meeting, a public question period. Refer to the By-law concerning rules of procedure for council meetings and internal rules for council management (06-051).
