The two libraries in the Verdun borough have a combined collection of more than 200,000 documents for adults, teens and children, including books, newspapers for on-site consultation, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, video games and society games for use on site.

Membership card

A Biblio-Loisirs card or any other membership card for the Bibliothèques de Montréal network is mandatory for borrowing or renewing documents and reserving an Internet station.

Libraries offer free Internet access via WiFi. Members can also reserve a station for up to two hours period each day.

Self-service library loans

Libraries are equipped with self-service terminals. Simple, fast and confidential, self-service loans let members borrow, renew and cancel reservations. A membership card and password are required to access your online file and use the self-service loan stations. Go to your online file to obtain a password. Create your password at the terminals. And don’t be shy to ask the library staff for assistance.

Reference librarians will be glad to help you search for documents, and guided tours are also offered on demand to those interested in learning more about library services.

Club des quatre pattes

After school, children from grades 1 to 3 are invited to read to a dog through the Club des quatre pattes. This initiative – the first of its kind offered by the Bibliothèques de Montréal – is aimed at helping children learn to read.

One individual child (with a parent) reads to a dog for 20 minutes, with three 20-minute periods offered each week. Registration is mandatory.

Jacqueline-De Repentigny : Mondays, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Île-des-Soeurs : Wednesdays, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This program is offered by Caring Paws Animal Therapy, a service provided by Volunteer West Island.

Musical instruments at your fingertips

Borrow an instrument from the Jacqueline-De Repentigny Library through the Programme de prêts d'instruments de musique de la Financière Sun Life. The following instruments are available on loan in Verdun: guitar, violin, ukulele, mandolin, bongos, keyboards, and xylophone. Must hold a Bibliothèques de Montréal membership and be 14 or older.

  • An adult membership card is required to borrow an instrument (14 or older).
  • The instrument must be returned to the library where it was borrowed.
  • Only one instrument at a time may be borrowed.
  • The duration of the loan is three weeks, with the option to renew three times if the instrument has not been reserved.
  • Fees will be applied for any lost or damaged instruments.

Salle Canadiana

The Salle Canadiana inside the Jacqueline-De Repentigny Library is specialized in genealogy and Canadian history. The collection includes the Dictionnaire Jeté, the P.R.D.H. and documents from the Drouin collection. The collection also features close to 1,000 family histories or dictionaries, 3,000 baptism, marriage and burial registers, and a collection of church monographs.
