Quai 5160 - Maison de la culture de Verdun
An architectural project with art and culture at its core
In the heart of Verdun, along the shores of the St. Lawrence River, lies the Quai 5160 - Maison de la culture de Verdun. The arts centre is housed in the old Guy-Gagnon building at 5160 Boulevard LaSalle, corner of Avenue Desmarchais. As a cultural venue with a community focus, the Quai 5160 - Maison de la culture de Verdun invites residents to discover artistic works across a range of disciplines, including music, song, dance, theatre, visual arts, and circus arts.
Two outdoor public artworks were also commissioned as part of the Quai 5160 project. Archéologies, by Yann Pocreau, was financed under the Government of Québec’s Politique d’intégration des arts à l’architecture, while Chorégraphies cartographiques, by Josée Dubeau, was financed by the city as part of the third component in its Mural Arts Program.
Spreading the word about culture in Verdun
Quai 5160, a multidisciplinary municipal space for cultural dissemination, forms part of the Accès culture network. The network’s mandate is to make professional artistic projects accessible by showing openness to new voices, cutting-edge disciplines, new practices as well as cultural diversity. Cultural staff at the Verdun borough curate indoor and outdoor cultural programming in both the performing and the visual arts. They are also responsible for forging outreach partnerships with professional artists.
Halls named after famous Verdunians
Accessible for everyone, Quai 5160 includes a 300-seat professional theatre, a gallery, a cultural mediation hall, a spacious windowed foyer as well as office spaces.
