Documentation centre

The Documentation Centre at the Centre d'histoire de Montréal includes a collection of 8,000 photographs of Montréal drawn from various archives in Montréal and from its own holdings.

In addition, a multitude of monographs, articles and other documentary files on different subjects having to do with Montréal history are available to qualified researchers.

Consultation

• Independent researchers may make an appointment (872-9796), for Wednesdays to Sundays between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., except during lunch hour from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
• Citizen enquiries should be addressed to M. Marc-André Delorme who will return the results to the enquirer within 4 to 6 weeks.
• Requests for information verification should be addressed to Mr. Marc-André Delorme who will return the results to the enquirer within 72 hours.

Reproduction

• Photocopies may be made at a cost of 10 cents per page.
• Images for which the CHM does not hold the rights cannot be digitized without written authorization from the author or the institution that holds the rights. Users must negotiate these rights with the author or institution if they want to reproduce the images.
• Digitization of images for which the CHM holds the rights or for which rights to reproduce have been authorized in writing, shall be done by the supplier identified by the CHM, on the supplier's premises. The cost of transporting the originals will be assumed by the reception staff at the CHM. This service will be supplied within a period of 10 working days and will be payable to the supplier upon receipt. Delivery by mail will be at the customer's expense.
• The Centre d'histoire de Montréal must be mentioned in citing the source of the image.
• The CHM remains proprietor of the source images, therefore the user may not authorize a third party to use or reproduce the images without authorization from the CHM.
• Any request requiring special treatment will be handled by the director of the CHM.
