Parc Decelles Pool Closed for the Summer

16 mars 2017

At its general meeting on March 14, 2017, Saint-Laurent Borough Council awarded a contract of nearly $2.25 million to Devcor (1994) construction company to carry out renovations to Parc Decelles pool and upgrade it to meet standards as well as to partially renovate the park shelter.

Due to this work project, the swimming and wading pools as well as the water play facilities at Parc Decelles will not be accessible to the public for this year's summer season; however, temporary facilities will make it possible to use the baseball field during this time.

The project is designed to provide residents with modern equipment that meets today's standards. For example, the pool will be equipped with a new filtration system and the park shelter will be partially renovated and universally accessible.

Built in 1964, Parc Decelles shelter and swimming pool will undergo major renovations for the first time. The pool facilities now need to be modernized, and so Saint-Laurent residents will have quality aquatic facilities to enjoy there by the summer of 2018.

Measures taken by the Borough

For residents who use the park's facilities, the Borough has provided for a number of measures to reduce the impact of these renovations.

Aquafitness courses and adult public swimming sessions usually held at Parc Decelles will be relocated to Parc Hartenstein, as indicated in the 2017 spring-summer edition of Saint-Laurent's recently published Agenda. As for swimming lessons, the organizers are currently examining the possibility of holding them at another pool.

Residents and groups (daycare centres, day camps, etc.) will be encouraged to go to their nearest parks with aquatic facilities—Hartenstein, Chamberland, Bourbonnière or Saint-Laurent.

Over thirty aquatic facilities

Saint-Laurent parks have a total of 16 water play facilities (including splash pads), 9 wading pools and 8 swimming pools. The temporary closure of Parc Decelles therefore should not have any impact on the use of the Borough's other aquatic facilities and will therefore not have any adverse effects on park users' comfort.
