Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (MAIH)

The Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (MAIH) was founded in 1935 by a group of parents who felt that it was vital to give their intellectually challenged children a “normal” life. This approach ran counter to prevailing thought. At that time, most people with an intellectual disability were quickly institutionalized. The MAIH is the oldest association of its kind in Canada.
