"Tous à vélo": Cycling along the Rivière des Prairies
Philippe Provencher, Anne Morin and seven-year-old Laurent were one of the families that rode among some 700 cyclists for the 2017 edition.
20 km as a family
"It was only the third time that Laurent had ridden a bike, but we decided to try it out ... we had nothing to lose!" said the father of this Pointe-aux-Trembles family. "And we were pleasantly surprised! He rode the whole way, and can't wait to go back this year!"
The linear path along Boulevard Gouin offers a waterfront view almost all along the way and no grades that could discourage little legs. At the halfway point, there's a festive refreshment stand where cyclists can rest their legs, enjoy a snack and recharge their batteries before finishing the ride.
"We rode with our neighbours, whom we met by chance," said Provencher.
The human-scale event brings people together and peps up the cyclists. "Laurent couldn't stop talking about the water arch that sprayed cyclists as they came into the park, and he also loved getting sprayed down by other people," said Provencher, as he recalled the scorching day last year.
Time for a party!
As in years past, there will be shows and activities on Boulevard Perras between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., including street food, face painting, a book club, giant puppets, a ring toss, mascots and a circus show with Throw2Catch.
"Last year, we stayed all day long and had a great day as a family," said Provencher. In 2017, 2,000 people attended.
"Laurent can't wait to ride with his new speed bike! Everyone knows that a speed bike is much faster!" said Provencher, smiling.
