La place des Tisserandes

Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is in full effervescence. To celebrate this renewal and commemorate its history, a new public square has been set up on Ontario Street at the entrance to the neighborhood.
La place des Tisserandes: A Place in Ontario Street.

The Place des Tisserandes is located opposite the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin located at 3200 Ontario Street East. This new place of socialization, which includes the pedestrianization of the adjacent stretch of street, has been carried out in close collaboration with the parish of La Nativité de la Sainte-Vierge. The public square allows the organization of cultural and community events, including a seasonal public market, in addition to highlighting 350 years of parish involvement in the neighborhood.

The lighting of the viaduct at the entrance of the neighborhood on the corner of Moreau and Ontario streets commemorates the importance of Hochelaga in the economic development of Montréal and the 150 years of Ontario Street, old working class backgrounds.

This project responds to the demands of citizens and local actors, who wanted to create a convivial meeting place at the entrance to the neighborhood.

This project is receiving financial support from the Ville de Montréal and the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
Investment by the city: $1.5 million
