The Greek Immigrant, a work of art

An imposing bronze sculpture to highlight the Greek community's contribution to the development of Montréal life.

This imposing, three-metre bronze sculpture by artist Giorgos Houliaras gives us the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable contribution of Montréal’s Greek community to making Montréal a better place to live since the beginning of the 20th century, both for its worth ethic and for everything that ancient and modern Greek culture represents in our society. The work depicts a man, a woman and a child looking to the future together. It is a legacy that the entire Greek community is offering the Montréal population for the city’s 375th anniversary to commemorate how its members were welcomed here over the years.

This project was made possible thanks to the Greek community of the greater Montréal area, the Lycée des femmes helléniques de Montréal and the Congrès hellénique du Québec under the auspices of the General Consulate of Greece in Montréal. The molten bronze statue is valued at $75,000 euros ($112,000 CA).
